April 2013: Work exhibited at Salts Mill.

My textiles work will be exhibition at Salts Mill from 24th to 28th April. The opening times are from 10.00 am to 5.30 pm Monday too Friday 10.00am to 6.00 pm Saturday to Sunday. The exhibition will be on the top floor of the Mill.

Salts Mill is set in the UNESCO World Heritage Site, Saltaire. The Grade II Listed historic textiles mill building was built in 1853 by Sir Titus Salt along with the village to house his workers. the Mill was purchased in 1987 and was transformed into Salt's Mill Gallery. it houses one of the largest collections of art by David Hockney. The whole area is of architectural and historic interest, please do visit if you get the chance!

April 2013: Awarded two first prizes with a further two commendations by the Bradford Textile Society.

I am delighted that my textiles work has been awarded two first prizes with a further two commendations by the Bradford Textile Society (Supported by Clothworkers Foundation). The first award was received for material construction created by non-conventioanl means. The second award was for innovative combination of textile processes for the interiors market. This recognition is special to me as I am originally from Yorkshire so its great to have my work commended by such an institution. The award winning work will be exhibited at Salts Mill from 24th to 28th April 2013. Salts Mill was built in 1853 and was at that time the largest industrial Building in the world. The Mill is now an art gallery housing a major collection of the work of Bradford-born artist David Hockney.
The whole area is of architectural and historical interest, please go visit if you get the chance!

My textile fabrics created for my Masters at the RCA.....

My bespoke fabrics used to upholster chairs!

My bespoke hand made fabric has been used for the back of a Hansen Series 7 chair with John Boyd woven horsehair fabric used for the front.It was fabulous to be involved in this project with the talented Alexandra Griffiths who produced the chair.

The Prize-winners were invited to the Worshipful Company of Dyers in London and I was one of the lucky winners. It was a great opportunity to learn about the Company's present-day activities centred around the development of dying and to meet the Prime Warden, Renter Warden and the members of the Court of the Dyers' Company. This was an insightful opportunity and I would like to thank the Worshipful Company of Dyers for the award and recognition for the use of colour within my textiles work. May 2012: Awarded a Travel Scholarship by the Worshipful Company of Dyers for use of colour.

I have been awarded a Travel Scholarship by The Worshipful Company of Dyers for the sophisticated and technical use of colour within my work. The Company's present-day activities are centred on continuing development of the craft of dying. The Travel Scholarship will allow me to travel to Morocco to gain fresh inspiration and ideas. This new research will then feed into future projects of mine, broadening the use of techniques and materials within my work. March 2012: Queen Elizabeth QEST Scholar Award.

I am delighted to be the recipient of a Queen Elizabeth Scholarship Award. QEST (Queen Elizabeth Scholarship Trust), the charitable arm of the Royal Warrant Holders Association, was established in 1990 to advance education in modern & traditional crafts and trades in the UK. Winning a Queen Elizabeth Scholarship will enable me to continue MA Textiles in Mixed Media at the RCA.

I am passionate about using traditional techniques and materials in new and innovative ways with the aim of pushing the boundaries of textile design. Trying to merge two opposing qualities has been insightful and produced some pleasing results. The scholarship will allow me to continue to create unique fashion/interior fabrics with a strong emphasis on material exploration.

Past scholarship winners have included antiques restorers, calligraphers, potters, sculptors, silversmiths and upholsterers; I am thrilled as a textile designer to now be counted amongst them as a Queen Elizabeth Scholarship Trust Scholar. For more information please visit QEST.
